Well, I went to the movies with the nurse tonight. We saw a movie with the English title Best in Time, though I don’t think that is a translation of the Thai title, which seemed to be very different (I can make out the two words “remember” and “forget” in it).
I was a little surprised that we actually went. See, the nurse called me a bit before 4 p.m., interrupting my workout with Penfold, and she told me that she was about to finish work, but that she had to work again from midnight to 8 a.m. I assumed that she was calling to cancel, but was surprised when she said she still wanted to go to the movie, but it needed to be the 6 pm show.
She said she would have to go back to her room immediately after the movie to sleep before her shift. That seemed fair to me.
It sounds like the component number for a piece of electronics. It probably has some very meaningful message for young Thai guys, but for me it’s a strange name for a go go bar. But that’s what T DED 99 is — a go go bar. (more…)
I haven’t spent much time in the go go bars in 2009, but tonight I went to Soi Cowboy with a mate of mine who has been in Bangkok for a week or so and is about to head home. I need to be awake at 5:30 in the morning on Thursday to go to work, so we agreed that the visit would be for just a short time. In the end we visited two go go bars, and I drank one beer and one bottle of water before coming back home at ten-thirty.
The first stop was the newly re-opened Rawhide. Following the New Year’s Day fire it was closed for several weeks. I was expecting a total remodel of the bar.
I knew, on the 29th of January, that it was gonna be trouble.
Sometimes you can feel it. There’s that little jingling bell in the back of your mind, or some sort of “spidey sense” that says that something significant just happened. Sometimes you understand it… sometimes not. Often I don’t know exactly what is wrong, just that something is wrong.
On the 29th of January I knew exactly what it was, but I shook off the feeling because the lady involved was someone I’d dealt with for nearly three years and I told myself that it wouldn’t be a problem.
The nurse is on my mind because I just got off the phone with her.
The nurse is one of those bad ideas that sometimes overtake me and involve me against my better judgement.
The nurse isn’t just a “good” Thai girl… she’s a VERY good Thai girl. Sweetness, innocence and purity of heart all rolled into one very adorable package.
Everything bad you could say about most Thai bar girls simply doesn’t apply to her. She is well-educated, hard working and naive. She doesn’t sleep all day — in fact she often works 16-hour shifts and has to catch naps where possible. Money — or the grasping love of money — seems a foreign concept to her. She lives simply and gently in the world.
At the same time she looks like a go go dancer. Not tall, she has a beautiful Thai face with deep brown skin, heavy eyebrows, cat-like eyes and a radiant smile. She looks like every Isaan princess I have ever known but she is not from Isaan.
And she does look sexy with that little white cap on.
Well, I just finished my 3rd workout in 4 days with Penfold, and I’m sore all over. (Just to be clear, by “workout” I mean an exercise session at California Wow).
Because of my work and Penfold’s social life the workout locations have varied; Friday at Ratchayothin, Saturday at Ekkamai and today in Ratchada. The next workout should be in Asok.
I’m sore because we had a three-week break between sessions, and the three week break was also caused by my being sore all over.
