Well, I just finished my 3rd workout in 4 days with Penfold, and I’m sore all over. (Just to be clear, by “workout” I mean an exercise session at California Wow).
Because of my work and Penfold’s social life the workout locations have varied; Friday at Ratchayothin, Saturday at Ekkamai and today in Ratchada. The next workout should be in Asok.
I’m sore because we had a three-week break between sessions, and the three week break was also caused by my being sore all over.
Why was I sore?

I heard from a friend that the movie Slumdog Millionaire was very good. Then it won all those awards. It seemed like other people agreed with my buddy. .
Turns out that the movie is good. I watched it yesterday just before I went to the Big Mango party. Today I was bored and so I watched it again.
The best part of the movie may be Freida Pinto, the beautiful Indian model and actress in the photo above.

So there’s a party at the Big Mango tonight. They’re calling it the which sounds disconcertingly like it will involve sex with a number of canines.
The monthly parties at the Mango have been evolving a style of their own over time. The initial ones were fairly staid affairs, followed by increasingly popular events that seemed to be testosterone-filled beer drinking festivals a little short on women and eye-candy. The boys decided to import some female talent for last month’s get together, and it had unexpected and interesting results.
What do they have in store for us tonight? Dancing German Shepards?
Well, the party starts at 8 p.m. and features 20-baht pints for a limited time, along with 100-baht bangers and mash. I’ve had the bangers and mash before, and it’s very very good. I’ve also been known to drink a pint or three, and they are very good as well.
Personally, I’ve got a workout at the gym with Young Penfold this afternoon. The plan is to dash home for a shower (alone… not with Penfold) then off to the Mango for the party, so I expect to be banging, mashing and beering by mid-evening.
So, if you’re in Bangkok today, get your ass down to the Big Mango on Soi 4 at 8 p.m. for a bit of animal atmosphere.

Thursday night was interesting.
Along with lots and lots of other people I attended the Daywalker Birthday Bash at the Big Mango. The party came alive in a big way, especially in the later part of the evening when a group of bargirls who were at the party got pretty rambunctious.
I had two (relatively) “good” Thai girls with me at the party, and they ended up a bit offended by some of what went on at the party. In part they were bothered by the very forward behaviour of the bargirls, and also upset by some of the things they heard from the male customers and some of the things they saw the male customers doing.
Both of these girls have been to the Mango before, so it’s not that they shouldn’t have been in “a place like that”, but rather that the party ended up much rowdier than has been usual in past Mango parties.
Anyway…
Sometime late — I’m guessing it was around midnight — I took out my wallet and paid my meager bill (most of the beer and all the food had been free all night) and decided to go home. I was in a bit of a bad mood because my two female companions had left a bit unhappy and a few minutes later I got into a bit of a disagreement with one of the girls that works at the Mango.
I hit the street grumpy, and decided that I’d walk home rather than take a taxi.
It seems like nearly every problem I have in Bangkok starts with me walking out of a bar late at night and deciding to walk home instead of getting a cab. You’d think I’d learn.
